french rose GARDEN TOUR - june 3 TO 7, 2025
ROSE WORKSHOP AND FESTIVALS
4 DAY TOUR
This year our French tour takes on a new focus – Roses! We will spend a couple of days in the Loire at our French garden, Chateau de la Rongere. We will start the tour with a rose workshop exploring the history, the different varieties and how to care for roses. This will be followed by a day visiting rose gardens in the Loire Valley. We then head up to Paris to spend one night in a charming hotel. We will visit a famous rose nursery and rose festivals in and around Paris. Prepare yourself to see and smell more roses than you could possibly imagine!
Stay as a guest for the first three nights in Bridget’s French home, Chateau de la Rongere.
The tour starts with afternoon tea in the garden and dinner at the chateau on Tuesday.
The following day The Land Gardeners will run a rose workshop including sharing their favourite varieties of roses and how to grow, care for and prune them. They will talk through shrubs and climbers, old roses and modern varieties and how you can incorporate roses in your own garden. They will also share their tips on how to care for the soil and feed your plants.
The following day we head down to the Loire Valley for a tour of the beautiful, rose-filled village of Chedigny. After a picnic lunch we visit the gardens of Chateau de Valmer with a personal tour by the fabulous and fascinating owner, the Countess of Saint Venant.
We then head up to Paris to enjoy the Paris Rose Festival, spending a night at the charming boutique hotel Monte Cristo in the 5th arrondissement.
Bridget and Henrietta will be your guides as you visit the following wonderful rose gardens in and around Paris:
La Roseraie du Val-de-Marne created by Jules Gravereaux in 1894 and completed in 1910. It comprises a formal rose garden, laid out in 13 formal sections and containing over 3,000 varieties and 13,000 roses including shrubs and climbers.
No less impressive is Parc de Bagatelle. Again it has over 10,000 rose plants including 1200 species! They surround the neo-classical Chateau de Bagatelle which was built in just 64 days following a bet between Marie-Antoinette and her brother-in-law the Count of Artois.
We finish with the world famous rose garden, Domaine de Chaalis, a royal abbey in the heart of the Ermenonville forest.
The tour will end just before dinner time on Saturday in Paris giving you the chance to spend the rest of the weekend in Paris.
